After exploring the memory and recording of experiences in tennis with “Chapter 1: Hawkeye,” Véronique Devoldère and Didier Clain turn to the possible narrative patterns in volleyball. “Monster Block” examines signs. More manual than verbal, players communicate using coded language for strategy, while revealing the richness of these visible interactions such as “high-fives” and other celebrations that strengthen team spirit, their narrative of the game.
These visible gestures, in contrast to secret signals exchanged out of sight, are essential to the atmosphere of a match. They manifest solidarity, triumph, and mutual support, which are crucial to the collective dynamics of sport. “Monster Block” reveals this confrontation of communications between players and with the audience, orchestrated by the Speaker, proposing a reflection on how these exchanges shape the collective experience, both on and off the field.
Don’t miss the continuous projection of the animated video “Monsters” at the PUC Social Club throughout the night!
